ABOUT JAE HUN KIM TAEKWONDO INSTITUTE

Welcome to J H Kim Taekwondo Nanjing

Jae Hun Kim Taekwondo Institute was founded in 1974 by Grandmaster Jae Hun Kim in Boston, USA. Grandmaster Kim carries the tradition set by some of the most recognized Taekwondo masters in the world. He was especially fortunate to receive personal teachings from General Choi Hong Hi – the acknowledged founder of modern-day Taekwondo – and from Grandmaster Park Jung Tae, founder of the Global Tae Kwon Do Federation.

Over the course of 40 years, our institute has become renowned worldwide for its systematic and intuitive method of instruction, coupled with the highest level of professionalism. The China network was established in 2011 to bring Grandmaster’s Kim’s unique brand of Taekwondo to China. The International Network has since expanded to more than thirty-seven schools in eight different countries (USA, Singapore, Korea, Ireland, China, Malaysia,Indonesia,Philippine).

Our institute is mentioned frequently as a premier Taekwon-do school in the world by various martial arts organizations. The school has been featured in numerous publications as a leader in the field. Our school was selected in 2009 as the top Taekwon-do school in the world by Mookas Media, the world’s largest martial arts media corporation, and we received the ‘2009 World School of the Year Award’ from the same organization.

In 2012, Mr. Jae Hun Kim was selected as “Grand Master of the Year” by the Taekwondo Times organization.

We opened our first studio in Pudong, Shanghai in 2011, and now operate eight studios in Shanghai. Many citizens, employees visiting from overseas organizations and expats come to J.H. Kim Taekwon-do School to enjoy taekwondo in pursuit of a healthy and happy life.

Philosophy

Taekwondo is an art that must constantly evolve, requiring the dedication of practitioners to improve in all areas. We believe the following guidelines will make our Institute the best place it can be.

NON-POLITICAL

Taekwondo is a martial art and the people who practice it are martial artists. There is no room for politics at our school. We devote ourselves solely to teaching and practicing the art of Taekwondo. Anyone who shares with us the desire to become a good martial artist is welcome

COMPLETE SYSTEM

We teach Taekwondo as a complete system. This includes kicks, punches, hand and foot blocks, sweeps, joint locks, grappling and throws as well as sport Taekwondo. Some students may choose to specialize in one or more specific area but the school will always provide classes on all aspects of Taekwondo.

ANALYTIC APPROACH

Any technique used by a martial artist must make good sense and be based upon sound physical principles. The practitioner must have a clear understanding of why each technique is done a certain way. Therefore, technical discussions with other students or instructors are encouraged in our school.

A HOME FOR MARTIAL ARTS

We want each member to view the dojang like his/her home as a martial artist. It is important to us that our members feel they can stop by anytime, for any reason.

SHARED VALUES
We believe and abide by these dojang tenets:

  • Improvement of Mind and Body

We strive to achieve a harmonious balance in ourselves. The purpose of our school is not to produce tough and dangerous people, but to provide the means by which students bring out the best in themselves both physically and mentally. We provide balanced development for our members.

  • Ethical Self-Conduct

We advocate contributing to making this world a better and safer place for humanity, not through vigilantism, but through ethical self-conduct. Our students are instilled with the importance of responsible behavior. As more people follow this path, the influence of ethical behavior will grow stronger.

  • Unity Among Members

Our dojang is a small international community in itself, with students from many nations and heritages. And yet, our love and practice of Taekwon-do have brought us together. When we treat each other as family in our dojang – regardless of gender, race, ethnic background, or religion – it allows us to do the same for others outside the school.
